We're so glad to hear you're interested in our products. We'd love to help you find items suitable for use during pregnancy. Since not all skincare ingredients are safe for use while expecting, we've compiled a list of key ones to avoid:
-
Retinol and retinoids (Vitamin A): Retinoic acid is known to impact the health of foetuses, which is why prescription strength doses are dispensed alongside birth control. It isn’t completely clear whether lower doses (the kind found in skincare) could have similar risks, so always best to err on the side of caution.
-
Salicylic acid: While lower concentrations of salicylic acid (under 2%) are considered safe, higher concentrations are not recommended during pregnancy. Taking salicylic acid orally is also not advised. If you’re using BHAs, doctors recommend using daily SPF as well.
-
Alpha-arbutin: Skin-lightening creams containing hydroquinone aren't recommended during pregnancy, and neither is alpha-arbutin, as it breaks down into hydroquinone on the skin.
-
Benzoyl peroxide: The jury is still out, but for safety benzoyl peroxide (used as a high-dose treatment for breakouts) is best avoided when expecting.
-
Essential Oils: Products with high levels of certain essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor before use.
We don't recommend using Beauty Pie supplements during pregnancy. This isn't due to any major safety concerns, but rather regulatory requirements. If you discover you're pregnant and have been taking our supplements, there's no need for alarm. Simply stop using them and consult your healthcare provider.
For easy reference, we list all ingredients on our product description pages. This allows you to cross-check them with any ingredients you wish to avoid. Of course, we always recommend consulting your doctor before incorporating any new products during pregnancy.
Note: If you're breastfeeding (and no longer pregnant), you can use more products. However, be conscious of the topicals you apply to areas where your baby feeds or has contact. As always, consult your doctor if unsure!
